The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time Active Transportation Project Specialist. Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Transportation, the Active Transportation Project Specialist is responsible for using a holistic approach to plan, market, and design active and sustainable transportation throughout the City. The incumbent will develop, coordinate, and execute active transportation education, marketing, planning design, and initiatives, as well as liaise with stakeholders and community groups and gather data to guide and support initiatives and plan capital investments.

Applicants must have a university degree in Engineering or related discipline from a recognized educational institution, along with a minimum of 5 years’ related experience in transportation engineering, planning, and/or design, including project management experience through planning and design phases of projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must hold a membership in, or eligibility for membership in applicable professional designation. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.
This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 35-hour work week. The hourly wage is $50.53, increasing to $53.19 after 60 working days (Jan 2026 Rates). The anticipated duration of this vacancy is up to two years.
