The Neon Dragon is a cage-free, women-owned dog grooming, daycare, boarding and grooming academy with two locations on Ness Avenue. We've been at this for over four years, we have a team of around 29 people, and our grooming academy has a 100% graduate employment rate.
Our whole approach comes down to two things we say a lot around here: humanity before vanity, and your dog's fiercest advocates. If those sit right with you, keep reading.
THE ROLE
We're looking for someone to take the administrative and organizational side of this business off the owners' plates. Right now the two of us are doing the bookkeeping entry, the payroll prep and the day-to-day coordination on top of running the company, and it isn't sustainable.
This starts as a part-time position. How quickly it grows toward full-time depends on you and how much you want to take on. We would much rather find one person who can grow into the whole thing than hire three people for pieces of it.
What you'd be doing from the start:
- Entering daily transactions and keeping the books current
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Payroll preparation
- Running internal communication and staff group chats
- Covering reception when we need it
What this could grow into:
- Full ownership of the administrative side of the business
- HR coordination, including onboarding, documentation and staff files
- A genuine assistant manager role with real say in how things run
We will train you on our systems and on anything you haven't done before. We're not expecting someone to walk in knowing all of it. We're expecting someone who wants to learn all of it.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Strong organizational skills and real attention to detail. This role touches money and schedules, so accuracy matters more than speed.
- Comfortable with computers and software. We use Square, Kennel Connection, Payment Evolution and QuickBooks Online. Experience with any of those is a bonus, not a requirement.
- Able to handle confidential information properly. You will see payroll and personnel files.
- Clear, professional communication, both with staff and with clients at the front desk.
- Comfortable around dogs. You don't need grooming or kennel experience, but you'll be working in a busy facility full of them.
- Someone who takes ownership. If you notice something is broken, we want you to be the kind of person who fixes it rather than reports it.
Helpful but not required: bookkeeping or accounting experience, payroll experience, scheduling experience, previous office management or supervisory work.
WHAT WE OFFER
- $17.00 per hour to start, with room to grow as you take on more responsibility
- Flexible shifts — we'll build a schedule around what works for you
- A clear path from part-time to full-time
- Staff discounts on grooming and daycare
- A small team where your work is visible and actually matters
