About Our Firm
Jason D. Watson Professional Corporation (CA4YOU) is a locally owned public accounting firm serving individuals, entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses and not-for-profit organizations throughout Peterborough and the surrounding area.
We provide a broad range of accounting, tax and assurance services, including personal and corporate taxation, bookkeeping, GST/HST, payroll, compilations, financial statements, reviews and audits.
We offer the kind of experience that is difficult to get in a large organization. You will work directly with experienced accountants, gain exposure to many different types of files and learn how an accounting engagement works from beginning to end.
We are a growing firm with a supportive, practical environment where strong employees are given more responsibility as their skills develop. If you want to learn quickly, work on meaningful client files and build a strong foundation in public accounting, this is a great place to start your career.
About the Position

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Accounting or Business Accounting college graduate, or someone with early accounting experience, who wants to build a career in public accounting.
Previous public accounting experience is an asset, but we are prepared to train the right candidate who has a strong accounting foundation, good work ethic and willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will grow as your skills and experience develop and may include:

- Preparing personal income tax returns

- Communicating with clients to obtain accounting and tax information
- Assisting with CRA correspondence and account inquiries
- Supporting senior staff on review and audit engagements as your experience develops
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- A college diploma or university education in Accounting, Business Accounting, Business Administration or a related program
- A solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits, credits and journal entries
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Strong computer skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
- A willingness to ask questions and learn
- A dependable and professional attitude
Experience with TaxCycle, CaseWare/CaseView, QuickBooks, Xero or similar accounting software is an asset but is not required.
Previous bookkeeping, tax preparation or public accounting experience is also an asset.

- Year-end accounting
- Compilation engagements
- Financial statements
- CRA correspondence
- Owner-managed businesses
- Not-for-profit organizations

Our goal is to teach you how to understand and complete an entire accounting file, not simply one small part of it.
Career Development
As your technical knowledge and experience increase, you will be given greater responsibility for client files, financial statement preparation, tax work and client communication.
Candidates who later pursue additional university education or the CPA designation will benefit from the broad public-accounting experience available within the firm.
Compensation
$45,000–$60,000 per year, depending on education and relevant experience.
Compensation will be reviewed as the successful candidate develops the ability to independently complete increasingly complex assignments.
