Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Manager to support our General Manager in the day-to-day running of our restaurant. As Assistant Manager, you will help oversee operations across our three core pillars — People, Product, and Place — while upholding Nando's standards for quality, safety, and service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the General Manager in overseeing daily restaurant operations and act as Manager on Duty as required.
- Lead pre-shift meetings, line checks, and shift handovers, recording all key issues and events in the manager log.
- Coach, train, and develop team members through one-on-one meetings and constructive, real-time feedback.
- Manage cash handling, including counts, deposits, and reconciliation, following company procedures.
- Place and receive orders, checking deliveries against invoices for correct quantities, temperatures, and expiry dates, and applying FIFO (first-in, first-out) stock rotation.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inventory checks and respond to product recalls.
- Monitor and maintain food safety, sanitation, and operational standards at all times.
- Actively manage the floor during service, monitoring speed of service and guest satisfaction to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Resolve guest concerns professionally to ensure a positive dining experience.
- Support the management team in hiring, scheduling, and building a positive, motivated team culture.
- Help interpret financial reports (such as P&L, or profit-and-loss, statements) to support cost control and drive results.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of restaurant or hospitality experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Valid Food Handler Certification required.
- Smart Serve certification required, or willingness to obtain before starting.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen and front-of-house operations.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team in a high-volume environment.
- Sound financial and business acumen relevant to running a restaurant.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer and internet navigation skills.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Reliable, punctual, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with a positive, team-first attitude.
