Material Handling Equipment Technician / Mechanic
Job Summary:
We are hiring a Material Handling Equipment Technician / Mechanic for our cold storage and logistics client in Mississauga. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on material handling and rolling equipment to support safe and efficient warehouse operations.
The successful candidate will maintain and repair equipment including reach trucks, dock stockers, walkie/pallet jacks, order pickers, counterbalance forklifts, clamp trucks, and related equipment, with a focus on mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, preventative maintenance programs, and equipment diagnostics.

Shift Structure:
Monday to Friday – Day Shift - 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Occasional overtime required based on operational needs.

$40–$43/hour (depending on experience)

Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on material handling and rolling equipment including reach trucks, dock stockers, walkie/pallet jacks, order pickers, counterbalance forklifts, clamp trucks, and related equipment.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems to minimize downtime and maximize equipment performance.
- Complete maintenance documentation and update records within the Maintenance Management System (MMS) to support work order tracking and maintenance planning.
- Generate and coordinate purchase orders for maintenance-related parts and services as required.
- Maintain and organize spare parts inventory, tools, supplies, and the maintenance shop area.
- Evaluate equipment and supply needs and provide recommendations for purchases and replacements.
- Coordinate with external service providers and contractors when required.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, food safety standards, operational procedures, and health and safety regulations.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment while following all required PPE and workplace protocols.
- Support efficient daily operations by prioritizing maintenance activities and minimizing equipment downtime.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams to ensure equipment reliability and operational continuity.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Education in a related mechanical, electrical, industrial maintenance, automotive, heavy equipment, or technical field is required.
- Minimum one (1) year of hands-on maintenance or repair experience; direct material handling equipment experience is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience repairing rolling equipment, forklifts, warehouse equipment, heavy-duty equipment, automotive equipment, or manufacturing maintenance equipment is considered an asset.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- Experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, preventative maintenance programs, and equipment diagnostics.
- Passion for repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment with a genuine interest in continuous learning and long-term career growth.
- Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and an “all hands on deck” approach to supporting operations.
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Comfortable using computer systems and software including maintenance management platforms, Microsoft Office, and cloud-based documentation tools.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks.
- Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check.
- Physically capable of performing maintenance duties in refrigerated environments and occasional freezer exposure (-18°C to -25°C).
- Willingness to work occasional overtime as operational needs require.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all PPE requirements.
