Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our specialty pain clinic as a Recovery Room Nurse. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, high-quality pre-procedure and post-procedure nursing care to patients undergoing interventional pain management treatments. The Recovery Room Nurse will monitor patients during the immediate post-procedure period, assess recovery status, provide patient education, and collaborate closely with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesPost-Procedure Patient Care
- Monitor patients recovering from interventional pain procedures, including nerve blocks, epidural injections, radiofrequency ablations, and other minimally invasive treatments.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, including vital signs, pain levels, neurological status, and overall recovery progress.
- Identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition or adverse events.
- Administer medications as ordered and within scope of practice.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and dignity throughout the recovery process.
Clinical Monitoring and Documentation
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, medications, and recovery outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Monitor for procedure-related complications and communicate concerns promptly to the treating physician.
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing records in accordance with regulatory and clinic standards.
Patient Education and Discharge Planning
- Provide post-procedure instructions to patients and caregivers.
- Educate patients regarding activity restrictions, medication use, expected recovery, and signs or symptoms requiring medical attention.
- Assess discharge readiness and ensure patients meet established discharge criteria.
- Coordinate follow-up care and communicate discharge instructions clearly.
Procedure Area Support
- Assist with pre-procedure patient preparation when required.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to maintain efficient patient flow.
- Ensure recovery room equipment and supplies are properly maintained and readily available.
- Participate in emergency response activities when necessary.
Quality and Safety
- Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols.
- Maintain compliance with clinic policies, nursing standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
QualificationsRequired
- Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the applicable provincial nursing regulatory body.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of recent clinical nursing experience.
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
Preferred
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), ambulatory surgery, procedural nursing, emergency nursing, critical care, or pain management.
- Knowledge of conscious sedation monitoring and recovery protocols.
- Experience in an outpatient specialty clinic setting.
