Part-Time Assistant Manager

About the Role
Global Pet Foods is looking for a Part-Time Assistant Manager to help lead our Kanata store. This is a step up from a floor role: you'll share responsibility for how the store runs day to day, and you'll be a steadying presence the team and our customers can rely on.
This role suits someone who has led people before, whether in a career, a business, a household, or a volunteer setting, and who brings sound judgment, follow-through, and a calm hand under pressure. We value experience and maturity in this position specifically, since you'll be trusted with keys, cash, staff, and decisions when the Store Manager isn't on the floor.
Schedule: This role requires availability for weekday daytime shifts, plus some evenings and occasional weekends. Because weekday daytime coverage is a core part of this position, it tends to suit someone with an open schedule — retirees, semi-retired professionals, and others not tied to school or 9-to-5 hours often find it a great fit. We're happy to discuss the specific shift pattern.

What You'll Do
- Open and close the store, including cash handling, deposits, and end-of-day procedures
- Supervise and support the team on shift, stepping in as the person in charge when the Store Manager is away
- Coach and train staff on product knowledge, customer service standards, and merchandising, and help onboard new hires
- Support scheduling, and help resolve day-to-day staffing and coverage issues
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and receiving, and help maintain stock accuracy
- Handle escalated customer questions or concerns with good judgment and a level head
- Provide warm, knowledgeable customer service and lead by example on the floor
- Contribute to daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals and help improve store profitability
- Keep the store clean, organized, and merchandised to brand standards
- Support a positive, respectful team culture
What We're Looking For
- Prior experience leading, supervising, or managing others — retail experience is a plus, but leadership from any setting counts
- Experience managing inventory — ordering, receiving, stock counts, or similar — retail experience preferred, but relevant experience from any setting will be considered
- Strong judgment and the confidence to make decisions and handle problems independently
- A genuine passion for animals and for helping fellow pet owners
- Comfortable with cash handling, opening/closing procedures, and being accountable for the store in the manager's absence
- Strong communication skills and a natural ease putting both staff and customers at ease
- Reliability and a steady, professional manner
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and remain on your feet for extended periods
- Reliable transportation to our Kanata location
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Availability for weekday daytime shifts, in addition to some evenings and occasional weekends
