EFry Hope and Help provides trauma-informed, inclusive and gender-responsive programs and services to support women and girls at risk or involved in the legal system in building stable lives.
We are recruiting a full-time Community Safety Educator, EmpowerHER Program. The program provides supportive, trauma-informed group facilitation that strengthens participants’ knowledge, skills, and self-esteem. The program mainly caters to girls between the ages of 12-24. The programming is offered weekly to groups of 8-12 girls in schools, residential facilities and other community settings. Encourages safe and healthy decision-making, builds independence and self-reliance, and connects participants to relevant community resources. Delivers gender-responsive programming that addresses participants’ vulnerabilities, promotes emotional and social well-being, and supports skill development through a relational and supportive approach. Provides educational presentations on anti–human trafficking, exploitation awareness, and prevention to youth, schools, and community partners.
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Community Safety Educator must be available to work out of various locations in the Peel and Halton regions. This position is from Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend availability as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate trauma-informed, gender-responsive group programming for youth in schools, residential, and community settings.
- Support participants’ emotional, social, and educational development while promoting independence and healthy decision-making.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, community agencies, and stakeholders to deliver and promote programming, including anti–human trafficking and exploitation awareness presentations.
- Maintain participant records, attendance tracking, scheduling, and prepare monthly statistical reports for program evaluation and funding purposes.
- Plan and manage program materials and supply budgets for effective group delivery.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer and or student co-facilitators.
- Respond appropriately to client needs and crisis situations while maintaining professional practice, community awareness, and ongoing professional development.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree and/or diploma in a related field with experience working with vulnerable populations; prior experience working with female youth is considered an asset.
- Ability to maintain and encourage confident assessment, counselling and program facilitation skills in order to engage, support, and interact with clients using a trauma-informed approach.
- Practical knowledge and experience facilitating gender specific and responsive programming.
- Thorough understanding of issues pertaining to youth and broad knowledge of community resources.
- Thorough understanding of client-focused counselling skills and role modelling approaches.
- Knowledge of residential programs and services; applicable legislation and policies, such as the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Youth and Family Services Act, is preferred.
MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Check).
- Standard First Aid / CPR certification.
- Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test in compliance with the TB Control Program.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Doctors note of fitness to perform the duties of the job.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license, with satisfactory driving record (Preferred).
