Maintenance Assistant
Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant supports the maintenance department in ensuring the retirement residence is safe, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained for residents, staff, and visitors. This role performs routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance activities under the direction of the Maintenance Manager or General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform routine repairs and maintenance of building systems, equipment, and resident suites.
· Complete work orders in a timely and professional manner.
· Assist with preventative maintenance programs and inspections.
· Conduct regular safety checks of the building, grounds, and equipment.
· Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and drywall repairs.
· Assist with suite turnovers, including repairs, painting, and preparation for new residents.
· Maintain exterior grounds, including seasonal duties such as snow removal and salting walkways.
· Ensure tools, equipment, and maintenance areas are clean, organized, and safe.
· Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and urgent requests.
· Comply with all health and safety regulations, fire codes, and company policies.
· Maintain positive working relationships with residents, families, contractors, and team members.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Previous maintenance, building operations, or facility maintenance experience preferred.
· Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
· Ability to operate maintenance equipment and tools safely.
· Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Excellent customer service and communication skills.
· Valid driver's license considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and perform physical work for extended periods.
· Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions
· May be required to work weekends, holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation.
· Exposure to cleaning products, maintenance equipment, and various environmental conditions.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
