Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi preparation, and possess excellent knife skills and attention to detail. This role involves creating high-quality sushi dishes in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation. The Sushi Chef will also contribute to menu development and uphold food safety regulations, ensuring an exceptional dining experience for our guests.
Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
- Select fresh ingredients and handle seafood with proper care to ensure quality and safety
- Assist in developing new sushi recipes and menu items to enhance customer offerings
- Educate team members on sushi preparation techniques and best practices
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and communicate needs for restocking
- Ensure all dishes are prepared efficiently to meet service times during busy hours
- Uphold sanitation standards at all times, including proper storage, handling, and disposal of ingredients
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or similar role in a professional kitchen setting
- Strong knowledge of Japanese cuisine, especially sushi techniques and presentation skills
- Excellent knife skills with precision in slicing fish and vegetables
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper handling of seafood products
- Creativity in developing new sushi recipes and menu items
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
- Certification or training in food safety preferred but not required
