What is the opportunity?
The Director Policy Management within Personal and Commercial Banking (P&CB) Data Management Office (DMO) is responsible for ensuring the business adheres to enterprise and regulatory data and privacy policies across the full data lifecycle. This includes oversight of data retention & destruction, quality, lineage, sharing, classification and usage practices. This role will work closely with Enterprise Chief Data Office, Enterprise Information Management Risk (2nd line), cross functional DMO teams, as well as data owners, stewards, and IT to embed policy compliance into business processes, technology solutions, and project lifecycles. The director will lead monitoring, assessment, and awareness initiatives to drive accountability and transparency around data policy adherence.
This role works in the office 3 to 4 days a week.
What will you do?
Oversee Compliance with Data and Privacy Policies:
Ensure P&CB business units comply with enterprise data lifecycle management, privacy, and acceptable use policies.
Translate complex data and privacy policy requirements into actionable business guidance.
Lead Data Policy Compliance Adherence Activities:
Manage team responsible for documenting key data management artifacts, such as data dictionaries and lineage diagrams, and enabling strategic data sourcing for critical business processes and reports
Support and advise business to develop processes around key stages of the data lifecycle: creation, usage, quality, sourcing, sharing, retention, and destruction.
Partner with IT, records management, and data architecture teams to ensure controls are implemented to enforce lifecycle rules.
Enhance the Data Retention & Destruction processes for PB&CB. Highlight major gap areas and recommend remediation
Drive Data Accountability:
Guide data owners and product teams on responsible data use, including appropriate sharing and third-party data transfers.
Collaborate with the privacy office to ensure data handling practices support consent, purpose limitation, data minimization, and lawful processing.
In collaboration with DMO analytics team, enhance and operationalize data quality management and issue resolution processes in collaboration with key data and reporting partners
Support Control Testing and Audits:
Work with Data and Privacy Risk Review team within DMO, 1st and 2nd line operational risk and compliance teams to review the effectiveness of controls related to data lifecycle and privacy compliance.
Prepare documentation and evidence for internal audits, privacy assessments, and regulatory reviews.
Monitor and Report on Compliance Gaps:
Maintain a compliance dashboard and issue log to track policy breaches, exceptions, and remediation efforts.
Escalate high-risk non-compliance issues to governance committees and senior leadership.
In collaboration with DMO Risk review and analytics teams Identify unapproved Data sourcing patterns
Promote Awareness and Training:
Lead awareness campaigns and training programs to build business understanding of data and privacy policies and mitigating controls .
Act as a trusted advisor to data owners, custodians, and product leads on compliant data handling practices.
Alignment with cross functional DMO and P&CB regional teams:
Act as primary liaison between P&CB Data teams within Canada, Caribbean and other cross functional DMO on data governance and reporting activities including risk assessments, control monitoring and regulatory remediation
What do you need to succeed?
Must-haves:
6 to 8 years of experience in data governance, privacy compliance, or risk management within banking or financial services.
Solid experience making thoughtful recommendations to Business, on strategic enhancements to data strategy .
In-depth knowledge of data lifecycle management, data retention, privacy principles (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and records management.
2 to 3 years of people leadership experience
Strong influencing, collaboration with stakeholder engagement with exceptional relationship building and communication skills.
Nice to have:
Familiarity with Personal & Commercial Banking products, services, and data usage practices.
Experience working with legal, privacy, and compliance teams to interpret and operationalize policy requirements.
