Job Summary
The SHaG (Sexual Health and Gender) Lab is in the Faculty of Health at Dalhousie University. The goals of the SHaG Lab are to advance our understanding of sexual health, to impact health policies and outcomes, and to provide a research training environment for students. Reporting to the Principal Investigator and the Research Coordinator, the Administrative Assistant supports effective administration, coordination, and communication of research activities within the research space.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate payroll submissions, employee pay documentation, and administrative processes to support research operations.
- Manage purchasing, asset tracking, laboratory supplies, and research equipment procurement through university systems.
- Support research account administration by tracking budgets, processing financial transactions, and liaising with research finance stakeholders.
- Assist with onboarding research staff and student trainees and provide administrative support for research projects.
- Develop and maintain research communications, including website content, social media updates, and knowledge mobilization materials.
- Organize meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and support research grant administration, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in a related field, plus, one to three years’ of relevant administrative, financial or coordination experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Proficiency in Microsoft office and ability to learn other financial applications.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
- Demonstrate strong initiative, superior interpersonal skills working with diverse community members.
Assets
- Familiarity with research administration processes, grant funding environments, or university policies and procedures.
