The Recreationist is responsible for working with residents on a one-to-one basis, or in small/large groups to provide stimulation and interesting age-appropriate programs, and to promote social interaction among Residents within the Home. Under the direction of the Manager of Recreation, Pastoral Care, and Volunteer Services. The Recreationist is responsible for performing job duties in a safe and professional manner within the scope of their position.
Responsibilities:
- Develop recreation programs and activities for Residents, based on assessed needs, interests and ability levels.
- Develop recreation programs to meet the Residents physical, spiritual, emotion and social potential.
- Provide individual and group social activities for Residents.
- Participate in Resident care conferences, as assigned.
- Ensure appropriate utilization of community resources.
- Organize and implement special events and programs.
- Assist in the evaluation of programs for their appropriateness and effectiveness as part of the ongoing quality assurance program.
- Acts to reduce customer (resident/family) dissatisfaction in a timely fashion.
- Observes and respects residents’ rights, dignity, privacy, confidentiality and responds to residents’ family concerns promptly.
- Participate in annual education, required in-services, and adheres to St. Joseph’s at Flemings policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Hold a post-secondary diploma, degree or post-graduate certificate in Recreation and Leisure Services, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology, OR has a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that, in the reasonable opinion of the licensee, is equivalent to the diploma, degree or certificates described above.
- Must be available to work weekends, statutory holidays, and varied shifts.
- Experience working in Long-Term Care field an asset.
- Must have strong written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
- Possess strong conflict resolution skills and critical thinking skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
