Make AI Practical at Golden West
At Golden West Broadcasting, we’re proud to serve communities across Western Canada through our network of local radio stations and community news websites. We’re now looking for a new team member to help bring the power of AI-enabled productivity across the organization.
As our AI Solutions Lead, you’ll collaborate with teams across the business to improve how work gets done: reducing manual effort where possible while also identifying new, innovative ways to enhance workflows. Using digital tools, you’ll help drive smarter, more efficient, and more impactful ways of working.
This is a new position with room to grow. You don’t need to be a full-stack AI expert, just someone who is curious, tech-savvy, and eager to help others work smarter. Good in-person communication skills are a must.
What You’ll Do
Understand Workflows
- Meet with different departments (news, sales, finance, HR, traffic, production) to learn how they do their work
- Identify opportunities where AI can reduce repetitive or time-consuming work, improve efficiency, and augment our team members’ capabilities
Build and Test Tools
- Create AI-driven tools and templates to help staff make tasks more efficient or comprehensive. Examples:
- Clean or reformat spreadsheets according to pre-determined checklist
- Generate consistent custom reports from structured data
- Develop more efficient workflows
- Industry research and comparison reporting
- Test solutions with employees and gather feedback
Train and Support
- Write quick-start guides, templates, and checklists
- Provide basic training and support to help employees feel confident using the tool
- Follow-up with each department to encourage adoption, track usage, make improvements to processes
- Run short training sessions (in person or over video)
Track Outcomes and Ensure Safety
- Monitor effectiveness (time saved, accuracy, quality)
- Ensure all AI use follows company rules and data privacy best practices
- Help maintain responsible use of AI (human review, data protection, no sensitive inputs, etc.)
What You Bring
Must-Have Skills:
- Great communicator who connects well with others; integrating with teams not working in a silo
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- AI literacy, including proficiency with at least two AI tools (eg. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot).
- Interest in workflow improvement, business processes, human computer interaction, and related areas
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Curiosity and initiative
Nice-to-Have:
- Previous experience in a business support, operations, or training role
- Familiarity with data privacy
- Experience with spreadsheet formulas, low-code tools (like Power Automate), or basic scripting
- Exposure to media, radio, or advertising environments
Working Conditions
- Based in Steinbach, MB (candidates in Winnipeg area welcome, but must work from Steinbach)
- Some remote work possible, especially for heads-down project work
- Most collaboration with remote offices is done via video calls
- Minimal travel required
This Role’s Impact
AI isn’t just for big tech, it can make a real difference in small teams doing big work. This role is about making AI useful, not flashy: helping co-workers get through their inbox faster, build reports more easily, and spend more time on meaningful work
You’ll work directly with the CTO, be part of a forward-thinking team, and help shape how AI is used across dozens of communities in Western Canada.
