Primary Objective:
To provide courteous customer service dealing with sale of liquor and to know and ensure compliance with British Columbia liquor laws.
To stock, rotate and face product, build displays as required for daily sales and to ensure a positive shopping experience for customers.
To provide prompt, courteous customer service, accurate money handling, keeping adequate inventory levels, stock and clean shelves.
Ensures these duties are performed in accordance with established policies, practices, and procedures including safe work procedures. Knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations, occupational hazards, and safe work procedures as it related to the position, including but not limited to bullying and harassment, working alone, and other significant hazards.
Employment involves morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts. Performs related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable service to customers
- Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions accurately
- Stock shelves, rotate inventory, and maintain store cleanliness
- Assist with product recommendations and educate customers on different types of liquor
- Verify customer age and ensure compliance with BC liquor regulations
- Receive, check, and organize deliveries
- Assist in loss prevention efforts and store security
- Preparing and maintaining a variety of records related to the work
- Performs related duties as required.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum 19 years of age (legal requirement for liquor store employees in BC)
- Basic math and cash handling skills
- Strong communication and customer service abilities
- Previous retail experience
- Familiarity with liquor products and trends
- Ability to lift cases of liquor and work in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of liquor laws and responsible service practices (Serving It Right certification)
Other Requirements:
Frequent: Physical- Lifting up to 50 lbs., Equipment operation (scanner, Register- POS system, debit machine), reaching, standing, and turning, entering coolers.
Mental- judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interactions, memorizing, reading, writing, math/counting currency.
Occasional: Physical-Lifting over 50lbs.
Equipment Operation: Point of Sale Program, Calculator, squatting stooping/bending, walking. Possible operation of walk behind forklift.
Ability to obtain and maintain a clear RCMP Police Information Check for offences related to the position.
