Beachcombers Academy is seeking an enthusiastic elementary teacher passionate about children’s learning. We are a unique rural independent school with a nature-inspired curriculum specializing in coastal studies, respect and kindness, and respect for the environment. Beachcombers offers teachers a positive and supportive work place with a 4-day school week, ocean-view classrooms and class sizes that range from 16 to 18 students per class for core academics; end-of-day classes are combined for a class size of approximately 22. We embrace the new curriculum and offer teachers the support and flexibility to be creative in their teaching. Students at Beachcombers are typically engaged and happy learners. Located on beautiful Vancouver Island, in the southern end of the Comox Valley, the school has panoramic views of Baynes Sound and Denman Island and is close to a protected estuary. Beachcombers’ curriculum embraces our local environment with an active outdoor recreation component including and hiking; coastal sciences and culture; and a virtues program. As a small rural school we are committed to developing a sense of extended-family within the school, and a strong sense of community within the wider community.

The position is to teach in multi-age classrooms, similar to a Montessori approach. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and creative teacher with a commitment to a holistic approach to education. - Valid BC Teaching Certificate by start date.
- A teacher who supports holistic development to provide an optimal educational environment.

- Possess good classroom management and communication skills.
- Committed to ongoing positive and compassionate communication with students,
staff, parents and community members.
- Dedicated to fostering a warm and supportive learning environment.
- Committed to quality core academics, provide excellent literacy and numeracy curriculums, and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards.
- Have an interest in outdoor education.
- Asset: a class 4 drivers licence or willingness to secure one.
