Supply Chain Team Lead — Shipping, Receiving & Yard Operations

Position Summary
The Supply Chain Team Lead provides day-to-day leadership to Shipping, Receiving, and Yard personnel. The role coordinates delivery schedules with the Order Desk and Production Manager, supports inventory accuracy and quality control, and ensures all loads are prepared, checked, documented, and shipped safely and correctly. This is an active, floor-based leadership position requiring strong organization, clear communication, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced manufacturing and distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Daily Coordination
- Lead, support, and coordinate Shipping, Receiving, and Yard personnel in day-to-day operations.
- Plan daily priorities and ensure team members understand expectations, timing, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate delivery schedules and operational priorities with the Order Desk and Production Manager.
- Train employees on safe work practices, material handling, order preparation, paperwork accuracy, and job procedures.
- Promote a respectful, professional, customer-focused, and team-oriented work environment.
Shipping, Receiving & Inventory Control
- Receive, identify, mark, scan, and organize incoming coils and materials, including attaching required mill certificates and paperwork.
- Rotate coils and inventory to support proper material flow and first-in/first-out practices.
- Check next-day orders carefully and ensure required order information is communicated before moving to the next load.
- Map, organize, and plan truck loads to support accurate, efficient, and safe deliveries.
- Complete counts, paperwork, quality checks, and final load verification before shipment.
Safety, Equipment & Material Handling
- Inspect equipment prior to use and ensure safe operating practices are followed.
- Operate forklifts, cranes, banding equipment, chop saws, and related material-handling tools safely and as required
- Load and unload trucks, stack coils, place material in storage racks, and supply coils to production as needed.
- Strap and secure material on production carts and shipments using appropriate equipment and procedures.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards in the yard, shop, storage areas, and shipping/receiving zones.
Quality, Service & Documentation
- Ensure loads are accurate, complete, properly secured, and quality checked before release.
- Verify drivers receive and sign the correct paperwork and that documentation is complete and accurate.
- Communicate professionally with production, order desk, customers, couriers, shipping agencies, and truck drivers.
- Support inventory cycle counts and help identify improvements related to safety, service, accuracy, and productivity.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Previous supervisory, lead hand, or team leadership experience is required.
- Forklift certification or eligibility.
- Experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, yard, logistics, manufacturing, or supply chain operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with employees, production teams, order desk, customers, couriers, and drivers.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in an active manufacturing/yard environment.
- Ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience in steel, building products, manufacturing, or distribution environments.
- Experience using steel binding machines, chop saws, and related production or warehouse equipment.
- Working knowledge of safe equipment operation, basic maintenance expectations, and industry best practices.
- Experience training employees and organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Crane experience is required or strongly preferred depending on site requirements.

Work Schedule & Pay
- Full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week, schedule may vary based on requirements.
- Occasional overtime may be required based on operational needs, additional quarterly Saturday hours may be required for inventory cycle counts.
- Pay wage will start at $28-30/hr based on experience.
Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour
