OVERVIEW

The Lead Labourer supports daily shop operations while providing day-to-day direction and guidance to labourers and shop personnel. This position remains hands-on, assisting with material handling, fabrication support, shop maintenance, and general labour tasks, while helping coordinate workflow, prioritize tasks, and maintain productivity and safety standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead by example while remaining actively involved in shop labour activities.
· Assist with coordinating daily work assignments and priorities for labourers.
· Support drilling, fabrication preparation, material handling, and general shop operations.
· Ensure materials, equipment, and tools are available and organized for production activities.
· Provide training and mentorship to new or less experienced employees.
· Monitor work quality and ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
· Communicate production issues, equipment concerns, and safety matters to supervisors.
· Assist tradespeople and shop personnel with production and repair activities.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
· Participate in safety meetings and promote safe work practices throughout the shop.
REQUIREMENTS
· Previous experience in industrial, shop, manufacturing, rail, construction, or mining environments.
· Demonstrated leadership, crew lead, or supervisory experience.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment.
· Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and coordinate labour activities.
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
· Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
· Experience training or mentoring employees is considered an asset.
