At Steer Friends, no two days are quite the same. One day you might be leading a cooking program, the next heading out into the community, planning a themed event, getting everyone involved in music or helping a member try something new for the first time.
We're looking for a Program Coordinator who brings energy, ideas and initiative to our team and, most importantly, genuinely enjoys working with people.
Steer Friends is a day program in Stouffville supporting adults with developmental and physical disabilities, including individuals with complex care needs. Our focus is simple: creating meaningful, engaging days where our members can participate, build relationships, experience their community and have fun.
This is a hands-on role. You'll be right in the middle of the day alongside our members and the rest of our team.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Program Coordinator, you'll help bring our days to life. You'll:
- Plan, prepare and lead engaging daily programs and activities
- Lead activities such as art, cooking and baking, music, sensory programs, games, recreation and life skills
- Find creative ways to adapt activities so members of different abilities can participate
- Encourage members to get involved, socialize, make choices and try new things
- Plan and participate in community outings and special events
- Build positive, respectful relationships with our members
- Provide hands-on assistance during activities and daily routines when needed
- Work closely with our Program Coordinators, PSWs and other support staff
- Help guide students and volunteers and get them involved in the day
- Complete required program and member documentation
- Help keep programming organized, prepared and running smoothly
- Jump in and support your team when needed

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who sees the person first and takes the time to get to know each member as an individual.
Who We Support
Our members have different personalities, interests, abilities and support needs.
Some communicate verbally, while others communicate in different ways. Some walk independently, while others use wheelchairs or require physical assistance. Some members also have additional support needs related to feeding, mobility, seizures or personal care.
You won't be expected to know everything on your first day.
You'll work as part of a larger team, and training is provided to help you understand how to safely and respectfully support our members.
Education & Experience
We'd love to hear from applicants with education or experience in areas such as:
- Developmental Services
- Social Service Work
- Recreation and Leisure
- Therapeutic Recreation
- Child and Youth Care
- Community Services
- Educational Assistance
- Personal Support Work
- Other related social services, recreation, education or healthcare fields
Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is an asset, but we also welcome new graduates with strong placement, volunteer or practical experience.
Requirements
- Must be available to work Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) is required
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential
- Must be comfortable working in an active, hands-on environment
- Must be comfortable supporting adults with varying developmental, physical and communication needs
- Must be willing to participate in community outings and activities
