Habitat Blooms is a small garden design, installation & maintenance landscaping business. We specialize in creating wildlife friendly self-sustainable gardens using primarily native plants. Our gardens take on many forms, including mini-meadowscapes, natural woodlands, pollinator gardens, rain gardens, natural ponds, and even more formal looking gardens. We use minimal loud machinery, and no toxic chemicals, instead building our gardens to be as eco-friendly as possible. Who You Are:
We are looking to add an enthusiastic & hardworking landscaping technician to our team. You will be involved in all steps of the garden construction process from start to finish, as well as maintaining many different beautiful gardens, making this the perfect position to learn about native plants & get started in the industry. Prior experience in the landscaping industry & knowledge of native plants are assets, however we can train you in these topics. What we need from you is the enthusiasm & willingness to learn. You must be able to take initiative & work independently, following detailed instructions with great attention to detail. Duties:
- Removing lawn sod/weed overgrowth to create new flowerbeds
- Wheelbarrowing large quantities of topsoil, mulch & riverrock
- Planting trees, shrubs, & perennials following a detailed planting map
- Building small retaining walls, flagstone/brick pathways, patio seating areas, & garden edging
- Installing garden features including arbors, waterfeatures, birdhouses ,etc.
- Installing & maintaining irrigation systems
- Maintaining new & established gardens including weeding, deadheading, pruning & fertilizing
Requirements & Assets:
- Must be physically fit & able to lift heavy loads (50lbs).
- Work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions including summer heat
- Able to accommodate a flexible work schedule. The position will follow a weekly schedule (e.g. working Mon-Fri), however some work-days will run longer than others. Some days may also be canceled due to severe weather and being willing & able to pick up the shift on a different day when you might not normally be scheduled is an appreciated.
- Access to your own vehicle to get to & from jobsites is preferred.
- High attention to detail, able to follow detailed instructions.
- Good communication skills. Comfortable speaking with clients & members of the general public about our work an asset.
- Work well independently as well as part of a small team. A self-starter who takes initiative & asks questions to clarify instructions as needed.
- Prior experience in the landscaping industry, gardening, or as a general contractor an asset.
- Knowledge of native plants & wildlife species in Ontario, invasive species, and common garden plants a strong asset.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
