J&R Mechanical is a locally owned and operated mechanical contractor serving Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories for nearly 50 years. Employing approximately 50 tradespeople and support staff, we are one of the largest mechanical contractors in the Northwest Territories.
We specialize in commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-residential mechanical construction projects throughout the North and have built our reputation on quality workmanship, strong customer relationships, and long-term employee retention.
As our company continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Journeyman Plumber to join our team.
Position Summary
The Journeyman Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of plumbing and mechanical systems on commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-residential construction projects. This position requires a strong commitment to quality workmanship, safety, teamwork, and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Install plumbing systems in accordance with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, construction documents, and project specifications.
- Install domestic water, drainage, venting, hydronic heating, and specialty mechanical systems.
- Coordinate effectively with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and other trades.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and jobsite safety.
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation challenges in the field.
- Complete project documentation and reports as required.
- Mentor and train apprentices.
- Represent J&R Mechanical professionally on construction sites and with clients.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Plumber Certification (Red Seal preferred).
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, building codes, and construction practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in commercial, institutional, industrial, or multi-residential construction.
- Gasfitter certification is considered an asset.
- Experience working in northern or remote environments is considered an asset.
