Key ResponsibilitiesArchitectural Drawings
- Prepare complete architectural drawing sets for zoning review, building permit applications and construction.
- Produce site plans, floor plans, elevations, building sections, reflected ceiling plans, schedules and construction details.
- Translate design concepts, sketches and project requirements into accurate technical drawings.
- Prepare existing-condition drawings using site measurements, surveys and available property information.
- Develop wall sections, stair details, roof details, foundation details and building-envelope details.
- Ensure drawings are clear, coordinated, buildable and suitable for contractor use.
- Revise drawings efficiently based on internal review, consultant comments and municipal requirements.
Code and Zoning Compliance
- Review project designs for compliance with the Ontario Building Code.
- Assist with zoning analysis under the City of Toronto Zoning By-law and applicable EHON policies.
- Prepare zoning calculations, building-area calculations, gross floor area calculations and parking information.
- Identify potential zoning and building-code issues early in the design process.
- Respond to municipal zoning and building examiner comments and coordinate required revisions.
Project and Consultant Coordination
- Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil and energy consultants.
- Review consultant drawings to identify discrepancies and coordination issues.
- Incorporate consultant requirements into architectural drawing sets.
- Support building permit submissions and track outstanding municipal comments.
- Assist with site reviews, construction questions, RFIs and drawing revisions during construction.
- Maintain organized project files, drawing records and revision histories.
- Work closely with management, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Building Science, Architecture or a related field.
- Approximately 3–5 years of relevant architectural technology experience.
- Strong technical drawing and construction-detailing abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Proficiency in Revit is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Toronto zoning requirements.
- Experience preparing building-permit and construction drawing sets.
- Experience with residential, multiplex, low-rise or wood-frame construction is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and coordinate structural, mechanical, electrical and civil drawings.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and building assemblies.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Toronto multiplex and EHON projects.
- Laneway suites, garden suites and low-rise residential developments.
- Committee of Adjustment and minor-variance applications.
- Existing-building measurements and as-built drawings.
- CMHC-financed or purpose-built rental developments.
- Coordination with municipal zoning and building departments.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a portfolio containing examples of their own technical work, including floor plans, elevations, sections and construction details. Applicants should clearly identify which portions of each drawing set they personally prepared.
Compensation and Opportunity
- Competitive annual salary of $50,000–$70,000, depending on experience and technical ability.
