Qualifications & Skills
- Licensed Pharmacist in good standing with a Canadian provincial regulatory authority (Canadian licensure required).
- Previous compounding experience is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of pharmacy management experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional pharmacy services and patient care in accordance with all applicable regulatory and professional standards.
- Respond to customer and patient inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while building strong patient relationships.
- Utilize pharmacy management systems, point-of-sale systems, and other computer applications effectively.
- Support and mentor pharmacy staff to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Collaborate with pharmacy team members to maintain a safe, accurate, and patient-focused work environment.
- Participate in promotional, educational, and community outreach initiatives organized by Smith’s Pharmacy.
- Promote health and wellness through patient education and professional consultation.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the ongoing growth and success of Smith’s Pharmacy through leadership, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Customer Service
- Greet customers promptly and collect prescription information in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform duties according to assigned responsibilities and priority schedules.
- Refer all clinical inquiries regarding medications, medical conditions, recommendations, or fees to the pharmacist in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Communicate wait times clearly and maintain effective customer communication.
- Retrieve and process prescriptions and purchases following SOPs.
- Provide accurate non-clinical information and address customer concerns appropriately, involving the pharmacist when necessary.
- Direct customers to educational resources when appropriate.
- Ensure customers requiring counseling are referred to the pharmacist promptly.
- Process cash transactions in accordance with company cash-handling procedures.
- Respond to customer inquiries both in person and over the telephone.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy standards.
Administration
- Process new and refill prescriptions according to SOPs.
- Prepare and submit orders for medications, OTC products, and special requests (excluding controlled substances).
- Process third-party billing claims online and manage manual claims, including the collection of outstanding balances when required.
- Answer telephone calls professionally and direct inquiries appropriately.
- Assist physicians and clinics with order placement and delivery coordination.
- Handle incoming faxes in compliance with pharmacy standards.
- Support pharmacists with follow-up calls and administrative duties.
- Identify patients who may benefit from additional pharmacy services and provide assistance as needed.
- Contact physicians' offices when necessary, such as for authorization requests, and maintain accurate documentation.
- File and organize documentation accurately and promptly.
- Generate reports as required.
Front Shop Merchandising
- Order and maintain non-prescription inventory, including stock rotation and expiry management.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including locks, security panels, and gates.
- Update and maintain patient education materials and in-store signage.
Prescription Workflow
- Assist with prescription preparation in accordance with company standards.
- Enter prescription information for new prescriptions and refill requests.
- Adjudicate third-party claims and update records as required.
- Select medications based on established standards and preferred brands.
- Accurately count, measure, package, and label prescriptions while ensuring complete documentation.
- Assist with mixing, reconstituting, and compounding prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
- Receive prescription requests by phone or in person.
- Maintain accurate records within pharmacy management systems.
- Coordinate with IT support or third-party providers to resolve technical issues.
- Prioritize prescriptions according to workflow requirements.
- Prepare all required documentation to accompany prescriptions.
Inventory Management
- Assist with coordinating compounding laboratory operations.
- Support inventory management under pharmacist supervision.
- Ensure medications are stored and organized appropriately.
- Maintain accurate perpetual inventory records.
- Replenish pharmacy inventory, including special-order items.
- Receive and unpack deliveries securely.
- Manage narcotic inventory under pharmacist supervision while maintaining accurate records.
- Process returns and expired products according to disposal procedures.
- Respond to product recalls by isolating and quarantining affected inventory.
- Rotate stock regularly and remove expired products promptly.
- Maintain preferred generic medication inventory.
- Conduct cycle counts in accordance with SOPs.
General Responsibilities
- Support pharmacists in providing high-quality patient care.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code standards.
- Assist with marketing initiatives as required.
- Stay informed of internal communications and company updates.
- Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy systems and software.
- Follow all SOPs and comply with provincial and federal regulations.
