About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to support a young adult living with complex PTSD, depression, and anxiety who is working toward recovery while attending school for social work. The client experiences significant morning anxiety and struggles with getting out of bed, eating breakfast, and starting their day. They have trauma related to cooking that makes mornings particularly challenging. The client is already engaged in weekly therapy and receives support from a housing worker, peer support worker, and mental health caseworker, but needs hands-on assistance with daily tasks to complement their existing counseling support.
Responsibilities:
- Provide presence and emotional support during morning routines (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM)
- Guide the client through breathing exercises and somatic exercises to manage morning anxiety
- Sit with the client during breakfast, providing encouragement to complete meals
- Help identify barriers to eating and develop strategies together
- Support the client through showering, light exercise, and getting ready for the day
- Assist with cleaning and folding laundry (working alongside the client, not doing tasks for them)
- Help the client identify and implement trauma-informed coping mechanisms from their existing resources
- Provide occasional transportation for errands or appointments
What We're Looking For:
- Experience with trauma-informed care and mental health support
- Strong active listening skills and compassionate presence
- Patient, calm demeanor with ability to bring positive energy
- Understanding of supporting independence rather than creating dependence
- Excellent communication skills
- Reliable and consistent
- English speaking
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to take initiative while respecting the client's autonomy
Schedule:
Thursday and Friday mornings, 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM (4 hours per week total). The client needs support on these specific days when they have class and must be active and out of the house. This is a month-to-month arrangement starting in August, with potential to adjust based on the client's progress toward recovery.
