Position: Head Bookkeeper & Accounts Clerk
Overview
Our bookkeeper of over 30 years will soon be retiring and we’re looking for someone with a keen eye for detail to take over her post. This position would be best-suited to a person who is a self-starter and organized by nature with an interest in modernizing our current practices. The role would start as a part-time position pending training and our current bookkeeper’s retirement this summer, gradually transitioning to a full-time role.
IMPORTANT: We are looking for someone seeking a long-term commitment for this role.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data into the payroll system, as well as paying payroll liabilities and employees
- Posting business transactions, processing invoices, and verifying financial data for use in maintaining accounts payable records
- Practicing effective active monitoring to ensure payments are made to vendors in a timely manner
- Accounting for financial transactions by establishing/following chart of accounts and defining bookkeeping policies and procedures
- Preparing financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
- Complying with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by understanding requirements as well as enforcing adherence to requirements, filing reports, and advising management on needed actions
- Maintaining historical records by filing documents either physically or digitally for payment, auditing, and tax purposes
- Providing other clerical support necessary to pay the obligations of the organization
Experience
- 5+ years in bookkeeping and/or accounting position
- College diploma or university degree in a related field an asset
