Join our dynamic team as a Mechanical Estimator and play a vital role in shaping successful mechanical projects! In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate, timely cost estimates for mechanical systems across a variety of residential and commercial projects.
This position plays a key part in keeping our projects profitable, well-planned, and smooth in the field. Working closely with General Contractors, Project Managers, Field Crews, Suppliers, and Clients. The Mechanical Estimator role will price work accurately to manage client expectations and set field teams up for success from day one. Location: Saint John area
Position: Full-Time, Permanent
Primary Location: Office-based role
Travel: Occasional travel for site meetings and field walk-throughs is required
Responsibilities:
- Monitor bid requests, prioritize, manage, and create a project award funnel.
- Review blueprints, architectural drawings, specifications, and scope documents to complete comprehensive takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Prepare detailed, competitive, and profitable cost assessments for commercial and residential projects.
- Lead project scheduling and coordinate directly with on-site foremen, other trades, and subcontractors to ensure seamless project handoffs and timeline alignment.
- Request, review, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing to secure favorable terms and material costs.
- Identify potential project risks, scope gaps, work & material delivery schedules, and necessary clarifications before work begins.
- Collaborate closely with project managers during execution; monitor project progress and adjust estimates as scope changes or unforeseen circumstances arise.
- Prepare Pre & Post-award documentation, such as as-built drawings and warranty documentation.
- Maintain organized, accurate records of estimates, contracts, pricing templates, and historical data.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 3 years of mechanical estimating experience is required.
- Strong combined background in estimating, project management, and scheduling.
- In-depth understanding of mechanical systems, construction methods, and building processes.
- Strong analytical abilities, sharp attention to detail, and solid mathematical skills.
- Proficiency with estimating software and standard spreadsheet applications.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively coordinate between office teams, field foremen, trades, and clients; a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Organized, reliable, deadline-driven, and possesses a valid driver’s license for occasional site visits.
Assets & Nice-to-Haves
- A Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma.
- Hands-on field experience in one of the mechanical fields
- Strong familiarity with local codes and inspection requirements.
