Cashier (Part-Time)

Location: Bay View Home Hardware, 475 Bridge St E, Belleville, ON
Hours: Approximately 14-32 hours per week (2-4 shifts)
Schedule: Must be available during all store hours, including weekends (non-negotiable)

Job Summary
We’re seeking a reliable and customer-focused Cashier to join our hardware retail team. This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide fast, friendly, and accurate service in a retail environment. You’ll play a key role in creating a positive checkout experience while supporting day-to-day front-end store operations.
This position requires weekend availability. Applicants without weekend availability will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver friendly, efficient, and professional customer service at the checkout
- Operate retail POS systems accurately, including cash, debit, credit card, and gift card transactions
- Process returns, refunds, exchanges, and in-house charge transactions according to store policy
- Assist customers with pricing inquiries, product locations, and general store information
- Answer incoming phone calls promptly and direct calls or take messages as required
- Notify customers when special orders arrive
- Maintain accurate cash handling procedures and balance tills at the end of shifts
- Keep checkout areas clean, organized, stocked, and presentable
- Maintain awareness of current flyers, promotions, and pricing updates
- Watch for loss prevention concerns and follow store policy regarding theft or suspicious activity
- Assist with store cleaning and closing procedures
- Participate in store meetings and training sessions
- Follow all store safety procedures and report hazards or unsafe conditions to managementComplete additional duties and projects as assigned by management
Required Qualifications
- Availability to work weekends and regular store hours: Mon–Fri: 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Prior cashier experience
- Experience using a retail POS system
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Excellent attention to detail and mathematical accuracy
- Friendly, professional, and team-oriented attitude
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance, with the ability to commute to our Belleville, ON location
- High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a retail environment
- Experience in a hardware, building supply, or home improvement environment
- Previous experience balancing cash tills and handling high transaction volumes
- Knowledge of Home Hardware procedures and products
- Experience assisting customers both in person and over the phone

Reporting Relationship
Reports to Supervisors and Store Manager.
