Taber Special Needs Society has been operating for 30+ years providing accredited supports as a not-for-profit charitable society in the community of Taber and the surrounding area for youth and adults with developmental disabilities.
Rotation: 2 Parttime: Sunday to Tuesday or Thursday to Saturday

Job Overview: We are currently seeking compassionate, reliable support workers to joining a supportive team working on-on-one with an engaging 28-year-old woman in a residential setting. This is a role for someone who understands that connection doesn’t always come through words and that patience, presence and calm confidence can make all the difference.
You will be supporting a woman who enjoys a relaxed pace, meaningful companionship, and opportunities to engage in activities both at home and in her community. She has a strong personality, a great sense of humour and thrives with staff who bring a steady, grounded energy.
This isn’t about just providing care, it’s about creating moments of joy, comfort, and connection. The right person will help shape meaningful days filled with laughter, creativity and trust. This position can be very physically demanding at times, must be able to walk a minimum of 4 blocks pushing a wheelchair and able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. There are extended periods of time where you will be working alone with just the individual in their residence and also times of going out in the community for all different types of activities as we work on expanding her access to all areas of her community.
This position works best with someone who can show confidence yet have a quiet demeanor that can assist in the young woman feeling secure and calm.
Key Responsibilities: Actively assisting an individual in achieving personal goals, assisting the individual with life skills, personal care, recreation activities and community inclusion. Assist the individual through behavioral challenges.
Serve as a positive role model in social development, healthy living, and independence.
Learn to understand and respond to challenging behaviours while implementing individualized support strategies.
Administer medications as required and assist with personal care and hygiene routines.
Create and implement daily schedules designed for each individual.
Complete daily logs and written reports
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
Adhere to Taber Special Needs policies and procedures
Qualifications: This role is best suited for someone who is:
-Calm, confident and emotionally steady (especially during moments of stress)
-Comfortable using non-verbal communication and reading body language
-Physically capable of supporting mobility needs (pushing a wheelchair, assisting with transfers, walking)
-Naturally patient, observant and non-reactive
-Creative in finding engaging, low-cost activities close to home
-Mature and professional in their approach to caregiving.
Candidates with experience supporting individuals with complex needs or behaviours are strongly encouraged to apply.$2 million in 3rd party liability insurance showing you as primary driver. - Require a successful criminal record check accessing the vulnerable person sector. - 18 years of age. - Proficient in verbal and written English.
