Help Bring More Play to Parkdale
Get Active ’N Play is a Toronto-based non-profit working to make Ontario the most active province in Canada, starting in Parkdale.
We are looking for a reliable and energetic Community Sports & Pickleball Assistant to help run evening pickleball games, youth clinics, Saturday community sports, local outreach, and social media content at Sorauren Park.
This is an active, hands-on outdoor position.
Parkdale Residents Strongly Preferred
The employee will be responsible for storing GANP’s sports equipment between events and transporting it to and from Sorauren Park.
The equipment includes a wagon, pickleball equipment, a volleyball net, and other program supplies. Living in Parkdale or close to Sorauren Park will make this responsibility much more practical.
Required Availability
Applicants must be available:
- Tuesday evenings
- Wednesday evenings
- Thursday evenings
- Friday evenings
- Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This is not a rotating schedule. The employee is expected to be available for all four weeknights and Saturdays.
Evening shifts will generally be approximately two to three hours long. Reliable attendance is essential because participants and other employees will depend on you to bring the equipment and help run each event.
Hours and Weather Cancellations
Hours will generally range from approximately 10 to 18 hours per week, but hours are not guaranteed.
Because this is primarily an outdoor position, programming may be shortened, rescheduled, or cancelled due to:
- Rain or storms
- Extreme heat
- Wildfire smoke or unsafe air quality
- Unsafe court conditions
- Court availability
- Participant attendance
- Other circumstances affecting safe program delivery
Employees will be notified of changes as early as reasonably possible.
What You’ll Do Tuesday to Thursday Community Pickleball
You will help:
- Transport, set up, and take down equipment
- Welcome new and returning players
- Organize games and manage court rotations
- Help beginners understand how the games work
- Keep sessions organized, welcoming, and safe
- Track attendance when requested
- Capture approved photos or videos when appropriate
Friday Programming
Friday programming may include open community pickleball or youth pickleball clinics.
During youth clinics, you may help:
- Welcome children and parents, or guardians
- Set up courts and activity stations
- Demonstrate basic pickleball skills
- Lead simple drills, challenges, and games
- Keep children engaged and participating
- Encourage teamwork and positive behaviour
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment
Saturday Programming
Saturday shifts run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Programming includes:
- 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: 60+ Pickleball
- 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: All-Ages Community Play
You will help organize pickleball, volleyball, pickup games, and free play while welcoming participants of different ages, skill levels, and abilities.
The additional time before and after programming is used for setup, cleanup, and equipment transportation.
Supervision and Training
You will work with GANP leadership and another experienced Community Sports & Pickleball Assistant.
GANP leadership will usually be present on Fridays and Saturdays. Most sessions will be run as a team, although you may occasionally be asked to operate a session independently after receiving training.
On-the-job training will cover:
- Pickleball rules and facilitation
- Player rotations
- Equipment setup
- Youth clinic support
- Participant safety
- Conflict response
- Incident reporting
- Weather procedures
- Media consent and approved social media use
You will be trained to respond calmly and professionally to participant concerns or minor conflicts.
Serious conflicts, injuries, complaints, or safety concerns must be reported to GANP leadership as soon as possible.
Equipment Responsibility
The person hired will be responsible for securely storing, transporting, setting up, taking down, and caring for GANP’s equipment.
If you are sick or unable to attend a shift, you must notify GANP as soon as possible so another employee can collect the equipment and alternate arrangements can be made.
Reliability with the equipment is an essential part of this position.
Social Media and Event Content
You may help:
- Post approved Instagram Stories while games are happening
- Capture photos and short videos
- Film community highlights
- Let residents know when games are live
Professional photography or videography experience is not required.
A smartphone is an asset but is not required. Employees with a smartphone may use their own device and may receive access to GANP’s social media account.
All content must follow GANP’s consent, privacy, and participant-safety procedures. Extra care must be taken when children are present.
Photos and videos created while working for GANP belong to Get Active ’N Play and may be used in GANP’s communications, social media, promotional materials, grant reporting, and impact reporting.
Community Outreach
Other duties may include:
- Distributing flyers
- Speaking with residents
- Promoting upcoming programs
- Helping with participant lists and group chats
- Contacting local organizations using GANP-provided information
- Supporting special community sports and Moving & Learning events
