Classroom Housekeeping Assistant & Aftercare Supervisor (Ages 3–7)
Position Overview
Glen Abbey Montessori School is seeking a dependable, caring, and professional Classroom Assistant to support our teaching team in creating a safe, clean, organized, and nurturing environment for children aged 2½–7 years. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children, takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization, and values being part of a collaborative educational team.
The successful candidate will be proactive, attentive, and able to support the daily routines of the classroom while ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all children in our care.
Key Responsibilities
Child Care and Classroom Support
- Assist children with toileting, handwashing, dressing, and other personal care routines as required.
- Support children during transitions throughout the day, including circle time, outdoor play, washroom routines, meals, nap time, and specialty activities.
- Assist children during lunch and snack times, including helping with opening containers, cutting food, encouraging independence, and monitoring food intake as required.
- Support educators in maintaining a calm, positive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Assist with preparing materials and classroom spaces for daily activities.
Health, Safety, and Hygiene
- Clean and sanitize tables, washrooms, high-touch surfaces, and classroom equipment throughout the day in accordance with school policies and Ministry requirements.
- Disinfect toilet seats, faucets, door handles, and surrounding washroom areas using approved sanitizing solutions.
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, toilet paper, and other hygiene supplies daily.
- Follow all school health, safety, sanitation, and infection-prevention procedures.
- Report any health, safety, or maintenance concerns to administration promptly.
Food Service Responsibilities
- Assist with food preparation, serving meals and snacks, and cleaning food preparation areas.
- Ensure food safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Check, record, and maintain daily food temperature logs as required by public health regulations.
- Load, unload, and maintain the dishwasher between meals and snacks.
- Prepare and serve afternoon and aftercare snacks as required.
Environment Maintenance
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of classrooms, lunch areas, washrooms, storage spaces, and common areas.
- Sweep and tidy floors as needed throughout the day.
- Organize bookshelves, learning materials, tables, and classroom resources.
- Assist with setting up and putting away nap equipment, bedding, cots, and related supplies.
- Support end-of-day classroom closing procedures and ensure all areas are left clean and organized.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience working in a childcare, educational, or related setting is preferred.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Up-to-date immunization records.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also completing tasks independently.
- Positive, patient, nurturing, and professional approach with children, families, and colleagues.
- Physically able to lift, bend, kneel, stand for extended periods, and move throughout the school environment as required.

As representatives of Glen Abbey Montessori School, all staff members are expected to maintain a professional appearance and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values of the school. Staff must adhere to the school's dress code and present themselves in neat, clean, and professional attire at all times.
