Thunder Bay Pulp & Paper is a leading northern bleached softwood kraft and energy producer. Located on Lake Superior, the Thunder Bay mill has been a landmark company of northwestern Ontario since 1919. In August 2023, Atlas Holdings established Thunder Bay Pulp & Paper as an independent pulp and paper operation, joining Atlas’ global family of manufacturing and distribution businesses.

Reporting to the Logistics Superintendent, this position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day logistics, warehouse, inventory and transportation activities that support the safe and efficient operation of the facility. This position will work closely with operations, production, sales, customer service, procurement and third-party service providers to ensure timely movement of finished products and materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain high standards of employee safety and foster a proactive safety culture
- Implement lean strategies to minimize waste, improve workflow and increase warehouse and freight effectiveness while ensuring on-time customer deliveries.
- Assist in managing warehouse operations and freight logistics ensuring alignment with overall business goals and customer expectations while driving freight and cost reduction strategies.
- Responsible for inventory management and freight logistics and cost control.
- Ensure KPI’s across safety, quality, cost and delivery are managed and achieved.
- Uphold FIFO inventory management while monitoring carrier performance and cost targets.
- Monitor 3rd party contractors to ensure safe optimized and cost-effective service.
- Develop and lead electronic data interchange invoice service for customers.
- Manage chain of custody requirement for warehousing and outsourcing contractors.
- Assist in building operational capability within the team through coaching and training across positions to ensure workflow and coverage.
- Resolve logistics issues with carriers and coordinate customer shipment schedules.
Key Selection Criteria/Experience:
- Post secondary education in operations management or a related field.
- Previous experience in pulp, paper, tissue or a heavy manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated success in implementing lean management systems, continuous improvement programs or Six Sigma initiatives.
- Previous experience working with industrial logistics.
- Previous experience managing budgets and achieving operational metrics.
- Excellent communicator with all levels of the organization. Insightful, self-aware, and able to listen to employees and integrate feedback into the operations. Strong belief in the continuous improvement.
- Excellent organizational skills including planning and prioritizing.
- Candidates must be able to legally work within Canada at the time of applying for the position.
Compensation:
- This is a salary position in the range of $80,000 to $90,000 depending on experience plus an annual bonus and relocation assistance,
