Project Coordinator – Commercial & Multi-Family Construction
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Terrace Construction Development Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to join our Edmonton team supporting commercial and multi-family construction projects throughout Edmonton and the surrounding region.
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for a Project Coordinator with previous experience working for a General Contractor or Construction Manager who understands the day-to-day administration and coordination required to deliver an active construction project.
The successful candidate will work directly with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent and will be expected to contribute immediately to project documentation, procurement, coordination, cost control, change management and communication with subcontractors and consultants.
The position includes regular involvement on active construction sites and provides a clear opportunity to progress toward a Project Manager role for a strong performer.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination & Administration
- Coordinate project documentation including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, site instructions, changes, contracts and purchase orders.
- Manage RFIs and submittals through Procore and follow outstanding items through to resolution.
- Review drawings, specifications and scopes of work to identify coordination issues, discrepancies and required information.
- Assist with procurement, tendering, subcontractor coordination and scope review.
- Support preparation and administration of subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Track project costs, commitments, changes and potential cost impacts.
- Assist with preparation, pricing, tracking and administration of contemplated changes and change orders.
- Maintain project logs, documentation and reporting requirements.
- Support project closeout, deficiencies, commissioning documentation, warranties and turnover requirements.
Field & Site Coordination
- Work closely with the Site Superintendent and Project Manager to coordinate construction activities.
- Maintain regular involvement on active construction sites.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants to resolve project issues.
- Assist with short-term planning, procurement, material deliveries and construction sequencing.
- Track project progress against schedules and identify potential delays or coordination issues.
- Participate in inspections, deficiency reviews and quality-control activities.
Communication & Meetings
- Communicate professionally with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, owners and internal project teams.
- Attend project, site and coordination meetings.
- Prepare and distribute accurate meeting minutes and follow up on assigned action items.
- Maintain timely communication and ensure outstanding project information is actively followed through to resolution.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant construction experience, including experience in a Project Coordinator or similar project-delivery role.
- Previous experience working with a General Contractor or Construction Manager on commercial, institutional or multi-family construction projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of construction project administration, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change management, procurement and subcontract coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of construction sequencing, site operations and coordination between trades.
- Experience communicating directly with subcontractors, consultants, Superintendents and Project Managers.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow outstanding items through to completion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Software & Technical Requirements
- Procore experience is required.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Experience with Microsoft Project and/or Smartsheet is preferred.
- Experience with Bluebeam or similar construction-document software is preferred.
- Comfortable working with digital drawings, specifications and construction documentation.
Education
Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Engineering or a related construction discipline is preferred.
Equivalent relevant construction experience will also be considered.
The Person We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who already understands how a construction project operates and is ready to take responsibility for their work.
The successful candidate will be organized, accountable and proactive. They will be comfortable identifying missing information, following up with subcontractors and consultants, raising potential issues with the project team and ensuring assigned items are carried through to completion.
This position is suited to an experienced Project Coordinator who wants greater exposure to the complete project-delivery process and has the ambition and capability to progress toward a Project Manager role.
