Position Overview: Equipment Operator
Our Telecom and Surface divisions are looking to hire experienced Equipment Operator(s) to work on project sites in various locations. The ideal candidate is someone who has experience in telecommunications, surface infrastructure or heavy construction, and is eager to continue a long-term career within the construction industry. Hours of Work: Standard of 10 hours/day between 7:00 am – 7:00 pm (subject to change based on work schedule and season)
Primary Responsibilities/Duties:
- Safe operation of equipment
- Effectively communicate to all site personnel and co-workers
- Identify, report, and correct hazards
- Handle and manipulate objects on a repetitive basis
- Ability to work independently and self-motivated
- Team player, able to get along with a diverse group of people working towards a common goal
- Operating equipment such as hydraulic excavator, dozer, loader, backhoe, skid-steer
- Complying with all safety requirements of the job
- Reporting to Site Superintendent / Supervisor
- Pre-Operational Equipment Inspections on SiteDocs.
- Handle and transport job materials within the work areas
- Other duties as required and assigned by supervisor
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in the heavy civil construction industry.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Background Check for work on secure job sites.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites located outside city limits.
- Physically fit and capable of performing the demands of the job, including:
- • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, and crawling.
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
Preferred Qualifications & Assets:
- Valid Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake (Q) Endorsement is considered an asset.
- Experience operating a variety of heavy equipment, such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, tandem truck, picker trucks and rock trucks.

- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with supervisors, peers, and clients
- Think logically about work at hand and compare site conditions with project designs.
- Travel where projects dictate (in-town and out-of-town projects)
- Detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
- Work in all weather conditions and various locations
- Work long and unpredictable hours
- Sit or stand for long periods
