Fortran Steel Contracting is a Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals fabrication shop looking to hire an experienced Junior Estimator to join our team.
The role of the Junior Estimator is to support the Senior Estimator in the preparation of tenders for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects.
Responsibilities (But not limited to):
- Review and understand contract drawings & specifications to determine full scope of work.
- Assist in the preparation & organization of bid documents.
- Prepare accurate, detailed, and clear quantity take-offs.
- Consult with suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain pricing information in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records related to cost estimates from suppliers & sub-contractors.
- Monitor upcoming projects for addendums & information that may alter the scope of work.
- Attend project meetings and job showings as required.
- Respond to requests for quotations from potential clients.
- Periodically act as the planner on smaller scope projects, including assisting with all estimating, project coordination efforts and interacting with key leadership and the client.
- Perform additional assignments as requested.
Skills Required
- Ability to read and interpret Structural & Architectural drawings and specifications accurately.
- Exceptional time management skills, ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks quickly.
- Adaptable to manage dynamic workloads and changing priorities.
- Working knowledge of OBC, CISC, CWB, & CSA Standards and Specifications
- Knowledge of construction structures, materials, and processes.
- Understanding and knowledge of steel erection and installation.
- Understanding and knowledge of Structural, Architectural and Customer blueprint drawings
- Experience with Construction Management.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, including, Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Thrives in a busy, deadline-oriented work environment.
- Must be able to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team.
- A valid driver’s license is required, as the facility is not accessible by public transport.
- Must be authorized to work in Canada.
Experience Required
- 1-3 years of experience in structural steel and construction.
- Experience in structural steel fabrication or project management is an asset.
Education Required
- Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist Diploma (or equivalent) is an asset.
Language Required
- Fluent in English (Oral, Reading & Writing)
- French (Oral, Reading & Writing) is an asset.
