What you'll do
Position Highlights:
The Specialist Engineer – Investment Planning is BC Hydro’s recognized subject matter expert for generation asset
investment planning. The role provides strategic leadership for long-term maintenance and capital investment planning,
ensuring generation assets are managed to optimize reliability, safety, environmental performance, and lifecycle value.
Working across multiple business units and disciplines, the position leads the development of asset investment strategies,
risk-based decision frameworks, and capital project prioritization plans. This role influences decision-making, and provides
technical leadership for high-risk, high-impact investment decisions affecting BC Hydro’s generation assets. This role is
responsible for integrating maintenance and capital planning activities, supporting long-term reliability and asset
performance.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops mid- and long-term generation asset investment strategies.
- Integrates maintenance, operations, engineering, and capital planning to meet asset management objectives.
- Advises senior leadership on investment priorities, risk mitigation, and emerging asset risks.
- Improves investment planning processes, business rules, and standards application.
- Leads complex, high-value maintenance and capital investment plans with cross-functional impact.
- Resolve cross-organizational and cross-functional risks and integrate diverse perspectives into decision making.
- Assess and lead high-impact decisions involving financial loss, energy production, water conveyance, and longer-term
strategic outcomes.
- Directs asset risk assessments, business cases, Investment Summary documents, and funding recommendations.
- Recommends investment priorities across asset classes and generating stations to maximize value and manage risk.
- Serves as a recognized specialist in generation asset planning, asset management, and risk-based decision-making.
- Consults with Engineering, Operations, Asset Planning, and other Generation partners.
- Coordinates stakeholders to align maintenance, capital, and operational plans with GSAP objectives.
- Influences decisions through technical expertise, business acumen, and stakeholder engagement.
