The Analyst compiles, verifies and analyzes health system data, contributes to the development of indicators and analytical reports and disseminates results to diverse internal and eternal audiences. This role combines data preparation and quality assurance with statistical and programming work, visualization and client-facing communication to inform health system improvement.
The Health Workforce Information (HWI) branch at CIHI collects and analyzes health workforce data to provide accurate, timely, and reliable information on Canada’s health workforce. HWI acquires, manages, analyzes, and disseminates health workforce data, while developing data standards, analytical tools, reports, and publications to support evidence-informed decision-making. This information supports health workforce planning, policy development, research, and analysis across Canada. HWI works with a wide range of stakeholders, including Health Canada, Statistics Canada, Health Workforce Canada, provincial and territorial ministries of health, regional health authorities, researchers, professional associations, and regulatory bodies. HWI provides information on workforce supply, demographics, geographic distribution, mobility, education, employment, and service utilization across health professions.
1. Collect, clean and validate data from internal and eternal sources; perform data quality assessments and documentation.
2. Contribute to the development of analytical plans, indicator definitions and methodology.
3. Develop, run and maintain analytic code; prepare reproducible analyses and maintain documentation/version control.
4. Conduct statistical and eploratory analyses to identify trends, anomalies and insights; apply appropriate analytic techniques for indicator production.
5. Produce and maintain regular and ad hoc reports, dashboards and visual products for technical and non technical audiences.
6. Build and maintain queries/data etracts and support ETL processes where required.
7. Provide client support and respond to stakeholder requests; liaise with internal program teams and eternal data providers to clarify data submissions and reporting needs.
8. Support the implementation of data governance practices, metadata standards and documentation to ensure analytic reproducibility.
9. Contribute to automation of routine processes and continuous improvement of analytic workflows.
10. Contribute to environmental scans and literature reviews to support the development of reports, statistics, and indicators.
- Undergraduate degree in Health Information, Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics or a related field.
- 1-3 years' eperience of related data analytics.
- Eperience producing clear data visualizations and reports for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Eperience with health system data, hospital/clinical information systems, or indicator development.
- Proficiency with data manipulation and statistical software, such as Python, R, or equivalent tools.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with BI/visualization tools and eperience producing visual products.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata standards and reproducible analytics workflows (version control, documentation).
- Knowledge of the health care system.
- Analytical rigor, attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Client-service orientation and ability to translate comple analyses into clear recommendations or key analytical findings.
- Organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Adaptability and commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Eperience with cloud-based analytic environments or modern data stacks is an asset.
- Primary locations: Toronto or Ottawa.
- Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
