The Opportunity
Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager, the Mechanical Designer will be responsible for preparing manufacturing designs that support production operations. This includes creating 3D models and engineering drawings, selecting components, developing manufacturing documentation, performing engineering calculations, and collaborating with production and suppliers to introduce new technologies and improve existing products.
This is a fully on-site position requiring close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project requirements and prepare detailed manufacturing designs using 3D CAD software
- Develop 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and detailed manufacturing documentation
- Evaluate engineering change requests and provide timely technical recommendations
- Collaborate with production teams to resolve design and manufacturing issues
- Support quality initiatives and continuous improvement activities
- Prepare engineering specifications, change notices, technical memoranda, and related documentation
- Produce detail, assembly, and arrangement drawings for manufacturing and installation
- Develop layouts, verify dimensions, and ensure appropriate clearances
- Perform engineering calculations to validate design quality and performance
- Assist with integrating new technologies and supplier components into existing product designs
Qualifications
- Technical Diploma in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field is considered an asset
- OIQ membership, P.Eng., PMP, or Six Sigma certification are considered assets
- 1–5 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, mechanical design, or a related environment
- HVAC or refrigeration industry experience is considered an asset
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Familiarity with Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering documentation, and revision control
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and collaborative communication skills
Working Environment
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Dorval, Quebec. The successful candidate will work on-site alongside the engineering and manufacturing teams in a collaborative, fast-paced production environment.
