As a Surveyor working in the Civil and Infrastructure team at Pomerleau, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate layout for our current and future projects. Working on large-scale civil and infrastructure construction projects - ranging from $15 million to upwards of $1 billion, your exceptional eye for detail will enable you to make significant contributions to the successful delivery of our projects.
What you will do
- Setup and operate total station and GPS instruments for precise lay-out and as-built capture of civil, infrastructure, and industrial structures.
- Proficient in the use of various survey instruments and data collection tools, with the ability to utilize layout software to support construction activities. Experience with Leica survey equipment is preferred.
- Establish, verify, and maintain survey control networks and benchmarks to support construction layout and quality assurance requirements.
- Conduct deformation, settlement, structural, or utility monitoring surveys as required by project specifications.
- Perform survey quality control checks on field measurements, calculations, and deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
- Ensure familiarity with survey department file management standards, data storage practices, file formats, data processing procedures, and survey request closeout requirements.
- Coordinate with project teams, superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to prioritize survey requests and support construction schedule requirements.
- Adhere to company safety policies, WorkSafeBC regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Work as a team, maintain a pleasant and trusting work environment, communicate effectively with colleagues and other trades on the site.
- Process, manage, and quality check field data.
This role could be for you if you have
- Minimum 5 years of construction surveying experience on civil, infrastructure, industrial, or heavy construction projects.
- Post-secondary education in Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, IFC drawings, and survey control reports.
- Working knowledge of survey control, coordinate systems, projections, geoid models, and construction survey best practices.
- High level of attention to detail and ability to work independently on multiple survey tasks and assignments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with Leica Captivate, Leica Infinity, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and construction layout software would be an asset.
- Adaptable and willing to work varying hours as required by project needs.
- Adaptable and willing to work varying hours as the job requires.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
- Ability to work extended shifts in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable working near and on water, steep slopes, excavation areas, and active construction operations.
