Umami Kid is a Japanese pop culture–themed izakaya restaurant located in Uptown Saint John. Created by the team behind Bubbly Cup, our concept brings together ramen, rice bowls, Japanese small plates, sake, Japanese beer, and an anime-inspired dining experience.
We are looking for a reliable, organized, and experienced Food Service Supervisor to help oversee daily front-of-house operations and support our restaurant team.
Position Summary
The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for supervising staff, coordinating daily service, maintaining high customer-service standards, and ensuring that restaurant operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of food service staff.
- Prepare staff schedules and ensure proper shift coverage.
- Assign duties and provide direction to team members during service.
- Train new employees on customer service, restaurant procedures, food handling, and workplace policies.
- Monitor service quality, order accuracy, cleanliness, and overall guest experience.
- Handle customer concerns and resolve service issues professionally.
- Ensure food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety standards are followed.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and daily sales reconciliation.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering food, beverages, packaging, and supplies.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth service.
- Maintain required records, checklists, temperature logs, and shift reports.
- Support a respectful, positive, and team-focused work environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience in food service, restaurant operations, or staff supervision is preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is required.
- Strong customer service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Reliable, responsible, punctual, and able to take initiative.
- Food Safety Certification is preferred, or willingness to obtain certification before starting.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
