Reporting to the Director of Resident Programs, the Recreation Aide ensures that the activities and programs are scheduled and facilitated effectively. They are to ensure completion of documentation relative to programs, attendance, progress notes, care plans, and annual/quarterly reviews.
RECREATION & WELL-BEING
- Responsible for planning and leading recreational opportunities, including outings for residents in accordance with the established policies and resident plan of care.
- Contributes and develops a plan of care to meet residents’ individuals needs along with other necessary documentation such as RAI-MDS, care conference forms, progress notes, etc
- Assist with coordinating, communicating programs and executing programs and initiatives. This includes the: Purchase of supplies, Decorating and setting up activities, Overseeing, encouraging and assisting residents participate in programs, Once the program is complete the Recreation Therapy Assistant is responsible (with their colleagues) for cleaning and packing up Recreation belongings accordingly.
- Document resident participation, and evaluate the programs delivered and adjust where needed based on feedback and observations.
- Establish a working relationship with residents/families and coworkers to meet their needs by using therapeutic communication.
- Support the residents in in achieving high-quality social and personal experiences.
- Monitor and improve family and team members' attitudes and behaviours to ensure that residents are included in choices about their leisure interests.
- Collaborate with onboarded therapy programs such as pet therapy, music therapy, art therapy, and to connect the Long-Term Care residents with the community
- Follows all established policies and procedures, including site-specific recreation therapy policies.
- Support Recreation Therapy Assistants when needed completing resident assessments, establish goals and interventions based on the residents' identified needs and concerns.
- Working as a member of the team, recreation aides will assist with providing coverage to other home areas and floors as needed

- Works/provides support to the HMLTCH team as requested to support residents.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates must possess a minimum of a diploma in therapeutic recreation, recreation and leisure, social services or similar
- Experience in Long-Term Care and with seniors is considered an asset
- R/TRO and CTRS designations are considered an asset
- Must have proof of a minimum of 2 covid vaccinations
- Priority hiring will go to candidates with up to date vulnerable sector checks and two-step TB test or negative chest x-ray
