Volunteer Strategist
Position Summary:
The Volunteer Strategist plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing volunteer services to ensure they effectively support the hospital’s mission and community needs. This position contributes to the design and execution of strategic initiatives, organizational goals, and innovative programs that maximize volunteer engagement and impact. The Volunteer Strategist also supports the development and implementation of robust recruitment and retention strategies, ensuring a sustainable and dynamic volunteer workforce aligned with the hospital’s current and future priorities. This opportunity is a new position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assists with volunteer activities and programs, including the development and implementation of new volunteer activities and programs, both within the Hospital and in the community
- Assists and participates in various community events
- Assists with the quarterly distribution of the Volunteer Newsletter
- Maintains accurate records and statistics pertaining to volunteers and volunteer services
- Assists with developing current policies, procedures and job description in relation to volunteers and applicable programs
- Contributes to the effective management and administration of the Co‑op Program
- Ensure succession planning and sustainability of volunteer programs
- Assist in with design and launch of new volunteer initiatives that address emerging hospital priorities and community expectations.
- Provide leadership and assistance throughout the recruitment and hire-on process, ensuring successful recruitment of qualified and competent volunteers
- Define metrics to assess volunteer contributions and program effectiveness
- Collaborates with department management for placement of all volunteers and evaluates and monitors volunteer's hours and attendance
- Works with department management for new and ongoing retention strategies such as volunteer surveys and exit interviews
- Account for the efficient utilization of hospital supplies and resources
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:
- Diploma in Volunteer Services Management Required (Post Secondary Degree considered an asset)
- Experience with planning, implementing and coordinating volunteer services, fundraising and public relation events.
- Experience in a health care setting - preferably chronic care - is a definite asset.
- Proven ability to work independently and function effectively as the Hospital spokesperson at various community events required
- Proficiency in computer application software (i.e. Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook) required, Vsys One an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
