The purpose of this role is to provide supervision, guidance and direction for the maintenance team at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park who are responsible for the equipment, facility and implementation of the maintenance plan. This encompasses directing the work of others, managing a team, knowledge of water systems and mechanics, and understanding the needs of the Ski Park.
Duties include:
- Manages the regular repair and maintenance of the Ski Park equipment and facilities, which includes electrical, water, sewer, and mechanical infrastructure;
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the daily, seasonal, and annual maintenance plan for Alpine and Nordic locations;
- Manages snowmaking and grooming teams;
- Responsible for the ongoing development and management of maintenance and safety procedures in collaboration with the Operations Lead Supervisor to support operational plans and special events;
- Liaisons with contractors or outside vendors on repairs and maintenance as required;
- Responsible for ensuring that the Park operates in an environmentally responsible fashion, adhering to all Provincial and National regulations while following industry best practices;
- Prepares a seasonal plan outlining when repairs and maintenance of equipment and facilities are to be completed, including timelines;
- Prepares a long-term maintenance plan for the Ski Park including the trail systems, required capital improvements and upgrades;
- Assigns equipment and staff resources accordingly in collaboration with the Operation Lead Supervisor to ensure operation needs are met;
- Collaborates with the Management team at Tourism PEI (“TPEI”) on all financial management and reporting;
- Develops and manages budgets and cost control measures;
- Prepares a long-term financial plan for the Ski Park equipment and facilities, and monitors its implementation;
- Manages the inventory of supplies required for maintenance and repairs for equipment and repairs and will reorder via the tendering process;
- Research, evaluates, and recommends initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability and the performance of resources assigned to the Ski Park, including alternative equipment and improvements in the use of labour resources;
- Oversees and manages capital projects;
- Manages the implementation of the Parks Strategy in collaboration with the TPEI Management;
- Supervises, coaches, and trains maintenance staff which includes onboarding, orientating, training, scheduling, managing, assigning tasks, and evaluation of work;
- Oversees, supervises, trains, and schedules Ski Lift Operators;
- Ensures HR resources and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and processes are adhered to and followed; and
- Prioritizes and assigned maintenance work to ensure the Alpine venues are scheduled with the available resources, in collaboration with the Operations supervisor, Operations Assistant and the Nordic Site Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of a diploma in a related field;
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered;
- Extensive experience in direct supervision of staff;
- Considerable experience using technical skills in a related field;
- Experience in managing projects;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Valid Driver’s license;
Other Qualifications:
- Considerable experience in Snow Park Operations;
- Knowledge of carpentry;
- Knowledge of electrical, water, sewer, and mechanical infrastructure;
- Knowledge of inventory management;
- Knowledge of tendering process;
