Overview
The Golf Course Marshal / Player Assistant helps create a positive, organized, and enjoyable experience for all golfers on the course. This role focuses on pace of play, golfer assistance, course safety, communication with the pro shop, and maintaining a friendly and professional presence throughout the golf course.
This is a volunteer position. It is not a paid employment position. In appreciation for their time and support, volunteers receive golf privileges, food and beverage discounts, and pro shop discounts.
The ideal candidate is friendly, reliable, confident when speaking with guests, and able to handle situations calmly and respectfully.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor pace of play and help keep groups moving at an appropriate speed.
- Greet golfers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist with organizing groups on the first tee when needed.
- Communicate with the pro shop regarding tee times, delays, course concerns, or guest issues.
- Drive the course regularly to maintain visibility and support golfers.
- Politely remind players of course rules, cart rules, dress code, and pace-of-play expectations.
- Help golfers with basic questions about the course, facilities, and daily operations.
- Report any safety concerns, damaged property, injured guests, or maintenance issues to management.
- Support tournament, league, and event operations when required.
- Ensure golfers are respecting the course, other players, and club policies.
- Maintain a calm and professional attitude when dealing with complaints or difficult situations.
Qualifications
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Friendly, approachable, and professional attitude.
- Basic knowledge of golf etiquette and course operations is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and make good decisions on the course.
- Comfortable speaking with guests and reminding players of policies respectfully.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to be outdoors in different weather conditions.
- Previous golf course experience is an asset but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to be outdoors for extended periods of time.
- Ability to drive a golf cart safely.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the course as needed.
- Comfortable being outside in changing weather conditions.
- Must have access to a smartphone
Schedule
Volunteer shifts may include mornings, afternoons, weekends, and holidays. Availability can be discussed during the application process.
Pay: $1.00-$2.00 per year
