The opportunity
Join a growing Canadian processing/distribution business where accurate accounting supports real operational decisions. Reporting to the Controller and CFO, you will own core general ledger, reconciliation, close, and financial reporting work. You will also gain progressively broader exposure to inventory, costing, controls, audit, planning, and finance leadership. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to become an excellent senior accountant and build the judgment required for future controllership.
What you will own
- Lead assigned month-end and year-end close activities, including journals, accruals, cut-off, and schedules
- Prepare and review balance-sheet reconciliations; investigate and clear discrepancies
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting with variance explanations
- Maintain GL integrity and support subledger-to-GL reconciliations for inventory, receivables, payables, and fixed assets
- Support inventory accounting, costing, reserves, cycle-count adjustments, and margin/variance analysis
- Strengthen accounting policies, close checklists, documentation, and internal controls
- Prepare audit and tax schedules and respond to information requests
- Partner with operations and other functions to resolve root causes, not only accounting symptoms
- Improve reporting and workflows through better use of the ERP, Excel, and automation
- Provide guidance and review support to junior team member as scope grows
What you bring
- Approximately 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; equivalent depth matters more than an exact number
- CPA designation or active progress toward completion preferred
- Demonstrated ownership of month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, inventory-intensive, or similarly operational environments
- Working knowledge of ASPE
- Strong Excel and ERP fluency; ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly
- Sound judgment, curiosity, attention to detail, and clear communication
Why join
You will inherit meaningful ownership, work directly with leadership, see how the business operates, and follow a documented development path toward broader finance leadership. Promotion depends on demonstrated readiness and company needs; we will be candid about both.
