Job Overview
As a Material handler, you will primarily be receiving, verifying and handling incoming material
while supporting the production team, in part, by maintaining all bin locations within the
production cells and Stores/Receiving area. Additional support to the Production Team and on
the plant floor would be in the form of prompt removal of waste from the production area
(broken/empty skids, empty racks, etc.), replenishing the Cells with parts or other materials,
while also assisting in maintaining the material in the Yard and Shipping/Receiving areas.
The Material Handler may also be required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as assigned by
their supervisor or the Production Manager.
Responsibilities
- Accurately receive and verify inbound products using packing slips or other documents to, ensure correct items and quantities are received
- Read, interpret and follow basic diagrams, packing slips, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to identify parts to be received, ordered and or replenished in work areas
- Assist in maintaining bin quantities in production and ensure timely ordering to avoid part shortages
- Ability to provide great attention to detail with accurate and precise counting of various items
- Assist in regular cycle/inventory counts and will be a key member of yearly Plant Inventory count
- Assist in maintaining products stored in the warehouse
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Occasionally assist in preparing outgoing material
- Basic computer skills are an asset
- Utilize hand tools such as a banding machine and a measuring tape.
- Ensure all work is done always with safety in mind and meets quality standards.
- Operate machinery used in the material handling process safely, or assist machine
- operators.
- Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified.
- Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities.
- Follow all company rules and policies.
- Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Comply with all applicable OHSA, ESA and other provincial regulatory laws, as well as company safety policies
- Any other duties as assigned by the Plant Supervisor or Senior Leadership team
- Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of this position at any time
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Forklift or reach truck driving experience required. A current and valid Forklift/Reach truck license is a very strong asset.
- Ability to interact well with customers, vendors, and fellow employees
- Overhead Crane experience is an asset
Physical Requirements
- 0 pounds, over 50 pounds with assistance, using a crane/hoist/forklift/pump truck).
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- May stoop, bend, reach, walk; perform repetitive motions using hands to grasp, push, pull, or do fine manipulations
- May sit for prolonged periods of time operating a forklift
