Overview
We are seeking an experienced Life Safety / Fire Alarm Technician who is also a registered Electrical Apprentice to join our team. This dual-focus role is designed for a skilled professional looking to leverage their expertise in fire alarms, emergency lighting, and fire extinguishers while advancing their hours and skills in the commercial and industrial electrical trade.
In this role, you will perform life safety inspections, service calls, and work alongside our Master Electrician on new system installations. The ideal candidate holds an active Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) registration and thrives in a variety of work environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Fire Alarm Operations: Perform the installation, programming, troubleshooting, inspection, and verification of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems in accordance with CAN/ULC standards and local building codes.
- Emergency Lighting Inspections: Conduct routine monthly and annual inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and battery/unit replacements for emergency lighting systems and exit signs.
- Fire Extinguisher Maintenance: Inspect, service, and maintain portable fire extinguishers in compliance with NFPA 10 standards and local regulations.
- Electrical Apprenticeship: Assist licensed Master Electrician with installing, maintaining, and repairing general commercial and industrial electrical systems.
- Technical Documentation: Accurately complete CFAA inspection reports, emergency lighting logs, fire extinguisher tags, and deficiency lists.
- Blueprints & Schematics: Read and interpret complex electrical blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer technical diagrams to support both general electrical work and life safety system troubleshooting.
Requirements and Qualifications
- CFAA Certification: Active registration/certification with the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) is required.
- Electrical Apprenticeship: Currently registered as an Electrical Apprentice (all levels welcome to apply).
- Life Safety Experience: Proven experience inspecting and testing fire alarm systems, emergency lighting units, and portable fire extinguishers in commercial or industrial settings.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with NFPA 10 (Portable Fire Extinguishers), CAN/ULC-S536 (Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems), and relevant National/Provincial Building and Electrical Codes.
- Skills: Strong proficiency in low-voltage systems, troubleshooting circuitry, and using diagnostic tools.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and stand for extended periods.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (a company service vehicle will be provided).
Pay: $900.00-$1,200.00 per week
