The University Systems Development Team is looking for a talented Senior Data & AI Developer to join a diverse team working on a wide variety of applications that support cutting edge research, teaching excellence and administration for UVic students, faculty and staff. This opportunity is with the Administrative Applications & Reporting team. This team is responsible for custom software development, data warehouse development, AI development, data governance, business intelligence, and reporting. This position will take a lead role in projects and be responsible for developing new capabilities with AI, gathering requirements and coordinating changes with clients, documenting technical specifications, designing interfaces, designing infrastructure, developing software to specification, delegating tasks to programmers, and ensuring products are delivered to specification on time and under budget.
Our preferred candidate should have:
- Experience with AI Development using Microsoft Fabric and Power Platform, including MS Foundry, Copilot Studio, Fabric Data Agents, and Azure Machine Learning.
- Experience with Data Warehouse Development using Microsoft Fabric including Lakehouses, Warehouses, Notebooks, Pipelines, Semantic Models, and Power BI reports.
- Experience with Data Science using Agentic LLMs, and Machine Learning.
- Experience with Business Intelligence dashboard and report development using Power BI.
- Experience with Data Governance using Microsoft Purview.
- Experience with Relational Databases including Oracle and Azure / Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with JSON, XML, and REST services.
- Familiarity with Accessible Design and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 AA.
- Familiarity with Software Development using Javascript, CSS, and HTML.
This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement.
Additionally, UVic compensation is competitive with
- Annual salary increases: 3.25% progression increases up to the salary job rate, and 2.25% performance increases from the job rate to the ceiling of the salary range, plus annual economic increases
- Generous vacation and sick leave: 15 days of vacation to start increasing to 29 days for regular employees, plus an additional holiday closure between Christmas and New Years; 18 sick days to start, increasing to six months for regular employees; parental and adoption leave available to regular employees.
