We have partnered with a well-established Calgary-based Family Law firm that is dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate some of life’s most challenging transitions to support them in hiring for their next Paralegal/Legal Assistant.
This maternity leave coverage opportunity, beginning in August 2026, is a 12–24 month term and is ideal for an experienced Legal Assistant or Paralegal with a strong background in Family Law who is looking to bring their expertise to a well-established Calgary law firm.

They are seeking a dependable and experienced legal professional who can seamlessly step into the role and provide support throughout a maternity leave term.
This position requires an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Assistant or Paralegal with a solid background in Family Law. The successful candidate will support lawyers with a variety of family law matters, manage files from inception to resolution, and ensure all deadlines and court requirements are met accurately and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The key job functions are:
- Open, organize, and maintain family law files from start to finish.
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, financial statements, applications, correspondence, and court forms.
- Coordinate court filings and ensure compliance with all court deadlines and procedural requirements.
- Schedule meetings, mediations, hearings, case conferences, and examinations.
- Manage lawyers’ calendars and monitor critical deadlines.
- Maintain accurate file records and document management systems.
- Assist with client intake, file management, and ongoing client communication.
- Prepare and organize disclosure documents and supporting materials.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Provide administrative and legal support as required to ensure efficient operation of the family law practice.
Education:
- Equivalent experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal within a Family Law environment is essential.
Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of Family Law procedures and documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and client service orientation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal in Family Law is required.
- Experience drafting family law pleadings, affidavits, financial disclosure documents, and court materials is essential.
- Experience managing files independently and coordinating court deadlines is strongly preferred.
- Experience with legal practice management software is considered an asset.

- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn firm-specific systems quickly.
Base Salary: $25-$29 per hour
Work Hours:
- Monday-Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm

- This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
