Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dependable General Machinist / Mechanical Assembler with a minimum of 10 years of hands on experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, presses, and performing mechanical assembly, rebuilds, and repair work. The ideal candidate will be comfortable reading blueprints, fitting components, troubleshooting equipment, and producing parts independently from concept through completion.
This is a key role in a busy custom metal fabrication and machine shop handling both production runs and one off custom jobs, with a strong focus on machinery repairs, mechanical rebuilds, and custom assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate manual lathes to machine precision components within specified tolerances
- Run vertical and horizontal milling machines for drilling, facing, slotting, shaping, and custom modifications
- Use hydraulic and mechanical presses for forming, punching, bearing installation, straightening, and assembly tasks
- Perform mechanical assembly of fabricated and machined components into complete units or subassemblies
- Disassemble, inspect, repair, and rebuild mechanical equipment, machinery components, and customer supplied assemblies
- Install and align bearings, bushings, shafts, sprockets, pulleys, couplings, seals, and fasteners
- Perform fitting, tapping, drilling, reaming, grinding, and hand finishing as required
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify worn or damaged components requiring repair or replacement
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, exploded diagrams, and mechanical schematics accurately
- Measure and inspect completed parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools
- Maintain machines, tools, and work areas in proper and safe working condition
- Work independently while communicating clearly with team members and management
- Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years experience as a General Machinist in a machining, fabrication, or repair shop
- Strong experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, drills, saws, and presses
- Significant hands on experience with mechanical assembly, disassembly, repair, fitting, and alignment
- Ability to read and understand complex blueprints, drawings, and technical documents
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems
- Experience working with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and common industrial materials
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and shop machinery
- Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods
- Detail oriented, dependable, and safety conscious
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage priorities in a busy shop

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $28.50-$31.50 per hour
