Overview
The Angel Foundation for Learning (AFL) is a not-for-profit agency, and the official charity of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB). With an operating budget of $14 million provided through program funding grants from federal, provincial and municipal governments, combined with public and private donations from sponsors, TCDSB parents and volunteers, the Angel Foundation assists, inspires and nurtures students through its four pillars of support: Student Nutrition Programs, School and Guardian Angel Funds, Bursaries and Awards and Student Leadership.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Officer, Student Leadership, Foundation Marketing and Social Media leads the daily creative and visionary pillar of Student Leadership, Outreach, Publicity and Social Media to animate the events, needs and accomplishments of the AFL. In tandem with the Manager of Communications, the successful applicant will align message and vision with the other communications of the Foundation.
As the Angel Foundation serves the TCDSB student population exclusively, this role often works in tandem with TCDSB student leadership department with a focus on service, philanthropy, teamwork and gospel values. Further to the scope of stakeholder involvement for a large urban school board, outreach and social media presence is instrumental to the AFL’s fundraising goals.
Duties
· Coordinate with the Manager, Communications, Events and Fundraising in the development and delivery of all traditional and online communications tools, annual reports, information brochures, newsletters, and social media posts to support the Foundation’s programs;
· Lead the Angel Foundation A-Team Program from October to May to develop leadership, teamwork and community-based improvement initiatives among secondary school student leaders. These responsibilities include:
- Promotion of the program annually in September/October across 30 secondary schools
- Develop program timelines and due dates associated with preparation for February Pitch Day and “post-pitch” follow-up
- Meet with regular school-based teams on a regular basis to monitor and provide feedback
- Coordinate A-Team Program goals with local secondary school staff
- Support and participate in selected TCDSB youth leadership activities
· Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and deliver all Angel Foundation Events and Fundraising, online communications tools, including graphic design, digital art and video support content to improve awareness, engagement and charitable contributions;
· Lead and develop daily content management of the AFL website and social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram etc);
· Lead and develop all other graphic design, creative interactive digital art (GIPHS) and video content as required;
· Assist in the drafting/editing of print communications, and other media materials as required;
· Draft and produce press releases, story backgrounders and other media materials;
· Assist in general fundraising events planning and execution;
· Coordinate, supervise and manage secondary school students who have a credit-bearing cooperative education placement in support of the Angel Foundation for Learning.
Experience and Qualifications
· A post-secondary degree or community college diploma in a related field (e.g. Communications, Marketing, Public/Media Relations, Journalism), and minimum two (2) years related work experience;
· Demonstrated proficiency in traditional and digital/online communications, graphic design and web-design/content creation through the use of software applications (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and MS Office 365 etc);
· Experience with daily web content management (WordPress), video and photo editing (Adobe Premiere, Photoshop) is an asset;
· Strong writing and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail with experience in grant writing is an asset;
· A big picture thinker;
· Photography and videography skills;
· Event planning experience;
· Previous hands-on experience working with education sector, direct knowledge of the TCDSB community and Youth Leadership in a faith-based setting are preferred assets;
· A Valid Driver’s License and access to a car is an asset.
Individuals must Demonstrate
· Exceptional communication skills (both oral and written), including superb editing skills; strong graphic expertise including layout, colour, content and scale acumen;
· Experience working in a team-based environment, self-motivated and be able to motivate and influence others, in supporting communications projects and deliverables;
· Ability to juggle multiple priorities, plan and execute range of special events and community projects, both independently or collaboratively as part of a team in a changing environment;
· Graphic design, digital and web media content creation and management experience (submit a digital portfolio)
· Demonstrate strategic use of social media and database driven website metrics (Google Analytics), and e-commerce technology;
· Knowledge of current marketing and communications trends;
· An understanding and ability to mentor youth, understand key skills of teamwork and project management;
· Strong professional attitudinal awareness that is suited to the specific contexts of youth mentorship, fundraising and collaboration
Hours of Work Compensation and Benefits
· The individual will work 37.5 hours per week.
· This position is located in Toronto and the individual is required to work in-person weekdays at the office location, as well as frequently travel to schools and other sites throughout the GTA. Working from home is discretionary and not otherwise the norm for this role.
· The AFL follows the TCDSB school calendar with office closures for the Christmas Holidays (2 weeks), March Break (1 week) and immediately following the first week in July for the summer (6 weeks approx.).
· Hours of work are flexible and may involve some early mornings, evenings and weekends.
A health benefits package is available, with the Foundation paying the cost for family coverage.
NOTE:
All positions with the Angel Foundation are one-year, term employment contracts aligned with the academic school year, as prescribed annually by the Ontario Ministry of Education. The employment period is from the last week of August to the first week of July. Records of Employment are issued for non-work/unpaid office closure periods when schools are not in session as noted above. In keeping with this practice, this position will commence with a 5 month probationary contract with the hope of an annual contract extension.
